WHAT IS PROBATE?

Probate is the legal process that takes place after someone passes away. It is used to manage and distribute the deceased person’s estate, which includes their property, assets, and debts. The process ensures that:

The will is validated (if there is one).

The deceased's debts are paid.

The remaining assets are distributed to the rightful heirs or beneficiaries.

If the person did not leave a will, probate ensures the estate is distributed according to state laws, called intestate succession laws.
